Mighty Ducks Win WSWL Championship
New team, the Mighty Ducks, wins the 2011 Winston-Salem Wiffleball League championship. Congratulations to the WSWL Mighty Ducks for taking out the 2010 champions - the Kenny Powers Krew (KPK). The Mighty Ducks didn't really have an impressive season, finishing with a 6-6 record. The Ducks defeated the Red Faces in the first round of the playoffs then won against the Meerkats in the second round. Then in the semi-finals the Ducks sent KPK to the loser's bracket. KPK beat the Meerkats then had a rematch against the Ducks for the championship. Here's the playoff bracket. This team really pulled it together when it mattered...in the playoffs. I never would have guessed that a team with 3 out of 4 of its players being rookies could take the championship. They were 1-3 against the 2nd place Meerkats and 0-3 against KPK in the regular season. The odds were against them but they somehow managed to pull off the ultimate upset.

Wiffley Field / WSWL Begin Playoffs
"Home to Southern Illinois's finest wiffleball stadium" is what the local news had to say about Wiffley Field. I'd have to agree although I'm unaware of any competition for that claim. It's not like there's dozens of wiffleball stadiums in that area and Wiffley came out on top. But the guy who built the field has been working on it for the past 8 years. Clearly this guy really loves the game. Anyway, WSWL has began their playoffs already, making them the earliest league to have their playoffs (with the exception of Tampa Wiffleball League, of course) this year. They tried out a new angle for this video and you get to see a lot more of the field and don't really miss any plays. But there were no home run robs...what's up with that?

Help WSWL Choose Play of the Year
If you watch the Winston Salem Wiffleball League a lot you'll quickly notice that stellar outfield plays are apparently the norm. But there are some plays that are a cut above the rest. Commissioner Joey Kahler has made this video exhibiting the top plays of the year and is asking for YOUR help to decide just which play is the best. Make sure to help them out and vote...I know I did. Click here to go to their site and vote.

Already Playoff Time For Some
For some of us - we're in the middle of the season...but for others it's almost playoff time. Winston Salem Wiffleball League made some great playoff promos last summer and it looks as if we'll be seeing the same thing this year. They easily have one of the coolest trophies (which is shown from time to time in the video). It's a grim reminder that the summer can't last forever as more and more leagues begin to have their playoffs.

Happy 4th of July
Unless you've "liked" us on Facebook you might have missed the latest wiffleball article in the Wall Street Journal. Well it's about 22 rules to keep in mind while playing wiffleball at your 4th of July family/friend gatherings. It's truly a humorous read. Also check out Winston-Salem Wiffleball League on the local news (video). Just add it to the growing list of media recognition the sport has received in the recent months. Happy 4th of July everyone! And try to squeeze some wiffleball into those family activities today...somewhere between grilling out and watching fireworks.

Help WSWL Out
The Winston-Salem Wiffleball League has once again opened voting polls up to decide which play is the best and which play is the worst. So help them determine which plays are the best of the best and the worst of the worst. I'm sure they'd really appreciate it.

New Highlights From WSWL and SCWL
Suburban Chicago Wiffleball League's Week 3 Highlights were shot from a different angle, this time behind the pitcher. I like the new view but still prefer to actually see where the ball is going after it's hit unless the highlights is mostly a pitcher dominating on the mound. As for the Winston-Salem Wiffleball League highlights for Week 2 well...it was the usual impressive fielding plays and nice hits. There were actually some balls that managed to get past the grasp of outfielder hands in the form of home runs. I know...hard to believe considering every single outfielder in that league apparently has wings since they can seemingly leap about 20 feet into the air to rob 80% of the home runs that come their way. Seriously...these guys must take a lot of vitamins to jump that high. It's crazy. Watch their videos from this year and last year, there's got to be at least 50 robbed home runs...and I'm really not exaggerating.

Nice Outfield Grab
This recently uploaded video from the Parson's Summer Wiffleball League features an incredible outfield catch from last year's playoffs. The first time I watched it this morning I thought for certain they hijacked some footage from the Winston-Salem Wiffleball League and integrated it into their playoff video, seeing that WSWL seems to always have an abundance of amazing outfield plays. But it's legit, a PSWL player made that awesome grab. Still no word on when the PSWL season will actually begin. Preseason games were played as recently as May 27. I'm not sure why they don't just start the season already!

Vote for WSWL's top 10 and not top 10 plays
The Winston-Salem Wiffleball League has posted their Top 10 Plays and Not Top 10 Plays from their season thus far. They're wanting to know which plays you think are the 'Best of the Best' and the 'Worst of the Worst.' Any highlights reel from this league is well worth your time. You'll find that home runs don't come easy in that league as robbing home runs appears to be routine. Vote at their page. And feel free to discuss some of the plays here or on our Facebook page.

The 100th Post
It's had to believe that it's been three months since I started writing this blog. This is the 100th post! This is an exciting time of the year to be a wiffleball player or fan. It's a lot like going to a farmers market...almost everything is in season. All the other leagues that haven't begun their seasons yet will before this month is over. Kingston Wiffleball League (New York) starts their season today...so does Winston-Salem Wiffleball League! The new Washburn Wiffleball League starts their season next week! Oyster Bay Wiffleball League starts their season May 21st. Feel free to comment to inform me of any other season openers not previously mentioned.

Griffle Ball is back for 2011
Griffle Ball is back! And not only are they back...they're expanding. Last year I tried to get into contact with that league to see if they'd like to join the NWLA but I was either ignored or they don't check their messages. I didn't know if they'd return this year and when I saw this video I sent another email. Fingers crossed!
Winston-Salem Wiffleball League also posted a 2011 Season promo video too. As usual it's phenomenal and features well-orchestrated music. Whoever does their video editing (Joey Kahler, I assume) does a marvelous job. I get pumped every time I see one of their videos. They just might be the league in the South now. Their unexpected return only adds to their prestige. I have a good feeling that they're going to have an amazing season.

Winston-Salem Wiffleball League promos
The Winston-Salem Wiffleball League has posted a couple of team promo videos on their Youtube channel for the Meerkats and Kenny Powers Krew (KPK). This, I feel, is the better of the two. It's got a hint of what their epic Week One Highlights video had from last year...using Hanz Zimmer's Inception soundtrack. Some of the images used are a little over-the-top but it's still a pretty nice video. I can't wait till they actually start their season though. I want to see some game highlights! When they exactly begin their season is still unknown.

WSWL Most Likely To Return For A 2011 Season...
Last summer wifflers from across the nation were shocked about a small league out of North Carolina called the Winston-Salem Wiffleball League. For many of us it was our first time hearing about them but they had, in fact, been playing since 2007. Their phenomenal Week One Video sent shock-waves throughout the wiffleball community. How had we not hear about this league before? Unfortunately they disappeared almost as suddenly as they appeared in the national spotlight. The 2010 southern darlings called it quits after the season was over due to so many players graduating high school and attending college. The South has been hard up for leagues of substance for the past few years. WiffleATL and Garrett Drive Wiffleball League appear to be the only other solid leagues in the South. Long story short - the South needs more leagues, good leagues. WSWL filled that gap nicely last year and it looks as if they will once again. 4 teams are planning on returning - Kenny Powers Krew, Meerkats, Shirtless Sluggers, & Red Faces. Meanwhile Patrick Ronan has parted ways with Red Faces in an attempt to start his own expansion franchise (yet to be named). So things are looking good for WSWL this summer. Their website has underwent a little construction and it'll be interesting to see where they take the 2011 season. Keep your eyes fixed on this league if they do make a comeback. They don't disappoint.

PA Wiffleball Take 2
PA Wiffleball is gearing up for their 2nd season this summer. Never heard of them? Not surprising. They were briefly mentioned in a NWLA article about prospecting leagues that haven't reached NWLA status as of yet. They have a leaguelineup website which is self explanatory. Rarely updated and scarce on information? You bet! In fact there's no information whatsoever. The only thing known about them is that there are just two teams and they're located in Stevens, PA - that's it. Its such a shame that they don't maintain a website, their videos are fairly entertaining. They remind one of Winston-Salem Wiffleball League (with the scenery) and Caputo Complex Wiffleball (with energy and style) - good company to be mentioned with. No way to tell if they had a full 2010 season. There were only highlights up to week 2 of their season so they may have never played beyond that. But it's good that they're coming back, maybe this time they'll be so kind as to let the rest of us know what the Hell is going on!...
Final thought: they're ranked #7 on Wiffle Reviews...whatever that means.

Let's play a little catch up...
For those of you who may not have been paying attention to a little southern league out of North Carolina known as the Winston-Salem Wiffleball League...you missed out. Although they don't look like they're coming back for 2011 they had a phenomenal year in 2010. They started their season with a gigantic bang, partly because of their highlights video of the first week's competition. It sent shock waves through the NWLA message board and no other videos could top it (not even WSWL). This video was awarded the 2010 NWLA Video of the Year. This was the first year the category was introduced into the awards and what better video to start the tradition with than this video.
