London Wiffleball Tournament Date Announced

The long awaited date for the 14th annual London Wiffleball Tournament was finally released a couple of days ago - July 14 (Saturday). Brian Wheeler, the tournament's organizer, emailed us with the date and his hopes for it this year. Some leading commissioners of leagues in the NWLA that went to the tournament last year plan on getting more leagues involved. The plan is to get as many NWLA teams together the following Sunday to play each other. The event could also serve as a meet and greet that would otherwise never take place. Wheeler said in his email that he will cooperate with the NWLA in their efforts to play on July 15. Leagues with teams that plan on attending include, Wiffle in SouthEast Michigan, Potomac Wiffleball League, Kalamazoo Wiffleball League, HRL: Twin Cities, Ontario County Wiffle Association, National Wiffleball League, and Suburban Chicago Wiffleball League. If this occurred, it would be the largest known summit for independent wiffleball leagues to ever take place - a truly historic event. More details on this event as the tournament date comes nearer.

The Potomac Wiffleball League has been uploading videos of entire games from their current "summer" season. They've uploaded 11 videos in the past 24 hours on their Youtube channel which will provide their players and fans literally hours of visual wiffle stimulation. So who's shredding the competition in the PWL this time around? Scared Hitless and Superman's Wheelchair are leading the standings with a 10-0 record a piece. Big surprise, right? Not really, if you follow their league much.

PWL Invades Nationals Park

9 members of the Potomac Wiffleball League took up positions at Nationals Park as a little pregame ceremony. This is just another reason to believe that 2011 is the summer of wiffleball. The sport has never received this much attention...and we're not even a month into summer yet. Who knows what else could happen before 2011 is done? Congratulations to the PWL for receiving such an honor!

PWL's Joe Thaman throws Second no-hitter of 2011

The Potomac Wiffleball League pulled off a spectacular 17-game catchup to make up for last weeks rain-outs. Joe Thaman of Superman's Wheelchair threw a no-hitter in Week 1 but didn't sign the ball saying "I'll just sign one for the perfect game I'll throw next week." Week 2 was rained out but Thaman stayed true to his word and threw his second perfect game of the season this past Sunday. I'm not aware of any recent pitchers in the country to throw 2 perfect games so close to one another. Week 3 Player of the Week hasn't been announced for the PWL yet but I think it's safe to say this guy has it in the bag.

Potomac Wiffleball League hopes to resume season

Torrential downpour over the metro Washington D.C. area (along with most of the mid-Atlantic region) last week which dampened the PWL's plans of having some games. This week looks good and the PWL is expected to resume play this weekend (May 1st) in which they will be playing a whopping 17 games to play catch up from last week. Best of luck to the Potomac Wiffleball League on resuming game-play. The competition has already been heating up with what they've played so far. Some familiar teams look as strong as they did last summer such as Scared Hitless, Superman's Wheelchair, & Blandsford Barnburners. There's a few winless wonders (teams that have yet to win) in there as well. I've got admit I didn't follow PWL that much in 2010 but will definitely be keeping my eyes on them this summer.

Potomac Wiffleball League kicks off 2011 season

Check out this guy slide into home to win the game in extra innings. He turned the slide into a roll and tumbled right over the strike zone board. Can't say I've ever seen this happen before. Try to check in on this league every once in a while, they're often forgotten about for no reason. So give the Potomac Wiffleball League some love periodically.
