Hess Field Wiffle Ball has recently posted a promo video for the 2012 season. A little soon, I know. But they must be super excited to get another season underway. The league really had a spectacular season in 2011 and seem to have recovered from their 2010 funk. Wish they would have used a different song. It's been done with the Winston-Salem Wiffleball League 2010 promo video (which won 2010 NWLA Video of the Year).

2011 HFWB All-Star Game
Somehow Hess Field Wiffleball has already played their All-Star game. AMAZING. Anyway Hess League whipped the Lamb League 7-1 and this video provides some great footage. I only wish they would find somewhere else to place the camera. While their highlights videos have been pretty good I would still love to see balls actually going over the wall or seeing outfielders make plays too. Putting the camera somewhere behind home plate would be perfect. But as you can see there's not much room back there so the current camera view might be as good as it gets.

HFWB's Chris Hess Throws Perfect Game
Chris Hess leads his braves to a win against Tadd O'Neil and his Red Sox, 2-0. O'Neil and Hess are great pitchers and this would have been one game I'd love to have the opportunity to watch. The Braves could become the top ranking HFWB team in the national rankings after this victory! Congratulations to Chris Hess for the great outing on the mound last night.

GSWL PA Pitchers & HFWB Double Header
Two pretty nice videos were uploaded within the last 24 hours. Wiffleboy28 uploaded a video showcasing the finer pitchers in the GSWL (Pennsylvania Region) and Hess Field Wiffleball uploaded the highlights from a double header matchup between the Cardinals and Mets. The Cardinals swept the Mets (not surprising). HFWB really have their act together this year. The website is being constantly updated and they are posting a video every now and again. They have really improved from last year in this regard and I've got to hand it to them...they have my attention. I'm checking their website now more than ever.

Hess Field Makes The News
Hess Field Wiffleball League gets into the news. This is a great article with some great images. A lot of articles about wiffleball or leagues that make into mainstream news are sort of short or lame but this one is one of the most insightful I've seen in a while.

Hess Field Continues To Impress
Hess Field had their season opener yesterday and the stats are already up! Some of the game results are nothing short of amazing! The league's top two teams (Cardinals and Indians) faced off. The #2 Cardinals and the #17 Indians game would have been amazing game to watch, I'm sure, because it was a perfect game for Cardinals pitcher, Chris Horwedel. 18 Indians batters went to the plate only to sit back down. Final score was 3-0, Cardinals victory which enforced the theory that the Cardinals will reign supreme in HFWB (and possibly in the national rankings). The only other nationally ranked team left in the league, #31 Braves, lost to the Red Sox 1-0. Some unlikely teams may be rising up in the rankings...all the more reason to keep your eyes on this league, the competition is going to be unbelievable.

Hess Field also starting their season May 1st.
At 1:00 PM tomorrow the Hess Field Wiffleball League will kick off their 7th season. They have 4 games lined up for the day (which you can check out on the schedule page). Their website has been updated and as long as they keep it that way they could be serious contenders for 2011 NWLA Website of the Year. The most noticeable change this year is the contraction of the amount of teams. In 2009 they had 12 teams; shrunk to 10 teams in 2010; and now have just 8 teams. Will they continue to diminish next year? The Cardinals look to be the real strong team in the league and are likely to dominate this season. They won the spring invitational tournament that featured their own league and Kingston Wiffleball League (New York). The Cardinals are also ranked #1 in the New York State Wiffleball Rankings. But who knows? Maybe one of the other top teams could knock the cardinals out of the top spot. The only think I care about is the league keeping their website consistently updated...they were simply too detached last year. However, I have a good feeling about HFWB this year...

Kzoo and others busy this weekend into next week
So, it's spring time. No dip!? And spring time only means two things...
1) You will gain a new appreciation for allergy medication.
2) It's wiffleball season!
Some of the nation's best leagues are going to be busy this weekend into next week. Palisades WBL will be having their 2011 draft this Sunday, April 17th. Kalamazoo Wiffleball League will be having their season opener the following Monday on April 18th. Meanwhile Hess Field Wiffle Ball and Wiffle in SouthEast Michigan will be having preseason tournaments. This is a really exciting time to be in a league or just a fan of the game. From here on out places like the NWLA website, league websites and forums, and this blog will be constantly buzzing with news, stats, and all things wiffle. So if you're not used to the fast pace of wiffle news - fasten your seat belts because it's sure to be a wild ride.
The opening week for Kalamazoo could be more interesting than first thought. The weather has really taken a turn for the worst for a league trying to get it's season underway. This weather in Kalamazoo has been wet and chilly with temperatures in the mid-50s...which is probably why this poor fellow is wearing gloves. But Kalamazoo looks as if they'll try to tough it out as depicted in one of the site's latest articles (Weather or not, here we come). Also they finally have the 2011 NL Preview up too.

Golden Stick - Pennsylvania Region is ready. Are you?
Ready or not - here they come! Regardless of your feelings about Golden Stick Wiffleball (GSWL/GSTC) they will be returning. And by "they" I mean the entire behemoth that is Golden Stick. It's borderline impossible to get a full handle on these guys due to the vastness of their organization. They're a group that expands across the entire country, with 8 regions from Massachusetts to California. I've been a harsh critic of them from time to time but it's hard to criticize their determination. They play ball and they mean business. I have no problem with that. What I do have a problem with is how seriously they take their business. At some point people need to ask themselves: This is just a game, right? At least they are somewhat honest with themselves. The little caption under 'Golden Stick Wifffleball League' at the header of their site says "A Backyard Game Taken Way Too Far." Way too far indeed. But I've got to say they're organized, professional, and well-skilled - admirable qualities. And as out-of-place as those qualities may be they do stand out from many other wiffleball organizations. Whether that's a good thing or not is entirely up to you.
Among the recent updates Hess Field Wiffleball has been blessing us with is their Ultimate Wiffler challenge. Sound familiar? Perhaps not. You wouldn't find it familiar at all unless you play in or are a fan of Golden Stick. Golden Stick has had a challenge with the exact name for about a year or so now. Ordinarily it would probably not be anything to worry about and seen as just a happy coincidence. But you can never tell for sure with these things with a serious organization like GSWL. They may have the name patented or copyrighted. Golden Stick was quick to respond to this recent update on the NWLA message board. "...way to be original. NOT." Check it out for yourself. If you're not registered on the board though you won't have any luck. So register and say your piece or just read. It's easily the best board in wiffle these days so you won't regret registering for it. But the argument could get nasty as it has before when involving Golden Stick. It's often the case that it ends up being Golden Stick vs. the rest of the wiffleball world...and I think they might prefer it that way.
